Workers hospitalised after Surrey factory explosion

Process safety management may be investigated at a factory in Surrey after an explosion at the facility led to eight people being taken to hospital for treatment.

The blast occurred at a facility in Hobbs Industrial Estate on Eastborne Road in Newchapel on Monday morning (October 3rd), reports Surrey Today.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, Surrey Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service released a statement noting the three bodies were working together to bring the incident under control.

Local people were told to keep their windows closed due to the smoke coming from the building, which could lead to questions being asked about the factory's fire risk assessment.

Of those injured, five were treated for burns and smoke inhalation at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, while one was taken to King's College Hospital in Denmark Hill and another to the specialist burns unit in East Grinstead.

Earlier this summer, the Melton Times reported on a gas main burst in Riverside Walk, which led to homes being damaged.
